Rangers youngster Robbie Fraser has sealed a permanent move to Dunfermline, bringing an end to his long association with the club.
The left-back, who came through the Rangers Academy system, has been highly regarded for several years and was tipped as one of the more promising prospects to emerge from Auchenhowie. Despite that, Fraser never quite managed to secure the consistent first-team opportunities that would have allowed him to establish himself at Ibrox.
Over the past couple of seasons, Fraser featured in pre-season matches and made the occasional appearance in cup competitions, while also captaining Rangers B in the Lowland League. He was often talked about as a potential long-term option at left-back, but the presence of senior players such as Borna Barisic, Ridvan Yilmaz and more recently Jefte limited his pathway to regular football.
His departure to Dunfermline offers him a fresh start and, crucially, the chance to play week in, week out at senior level. At 21, this is an important stage in his career, and a spell in the Championship could be exactly what he needs to kick on.
Fraser spent the second half of last season on loan at Livingston in the Championship, where he gained valuable experience in a competitive league. Despite showing flashes of his potential, regular opportunities at Rangers still proved elusive. His departure to Dunfermline now offers him a fresh start and, crucially, the chance to play week in, week out at senior level. At 21, this is an important stage in his career, and a spell at East End Park could be exactly what he needs to kick on.
Dunfermline are a good-sized club in their own right, with a proud history, a decent stadium at East End Park, and a strong, loyal fan base. Fraser also won’t be the only Ranger there this season, with young goalkeeper Mason Munn currently on loan at the Pars. That familiar connection could help him settle quickly as he adapts to his new surroundings.
Rangers supporters will wish Fraser nothing but success as he begins this new chapter. While he never quite got the break he needed to cement a place in the first team, he leaves with the respect of fans who recognised his talent, professionalism, and commitment to the club.
We’ll be keeping an eye on his progress at East End Park and hoping this move allows him to showcase the ability that made him such a standout at youth level.
Good luck, Robbie – once a Ranger, always a Ranger.
