By all accounts, it looks like Hamza Igamane’s time at Rangers is coming to an abrupt but profitable end. Reports from across Europe suggest that the Moroccan forward has agreed personal terms with Ligue 1 side Lille, with the French club now in negotiations with Rangers over a fee that could break records.
A Rapid Rise and a Painful Exit
Igamane only arrived at Ibrox in the summer of 2024, joining from AS FAR Rabat for around £1.7 million. In less than a year, he became one of the most exciting prospects in the squad, known for his direct play, technical sharpness and big-game mentality. His winner in the New Year Old Firm derby and his Europa League heroics won him a place in fans’ hearts.
Initial reports claimed a potential fee in the region of €15–20 million, potentially with add-ons that would make this the most lucrative sale in Rangers’ history, eclipsing the previous record held by Calvin Bassey’s move to Ajax.
Lille Link to Rangers Hamza Igamane: Fact or Fiction?
In the latest twist, French media claim Lille have submitted a bid Rangers deemed too low and have subsequently walked away. But sources close to Rangers suggest that no official bid has actually been received at all. That casts serious doubt over the entire story and raises the question: was this all just paper talk, or is it part of a wider negotiation tactic?
Lille may still be interested and testing the waters, but for now, there’s no confirmed offer on the table. That doesn’t mean a deal is off—it could just be posturing—but it does underline that Rangers are holding firm.
The club’s valuation reportedly sits around £20 million, and they are unwilling to undersell a player with huge potential.
The Bigger Picture if Rangers Sell Hamza Igamane
With Cyriel Dessers also linked with a move away, Danilo is the only remaining senior striker at the club. That means Russell Martin will be under serious pressure to bring in attacking reinforcements before the Champions League qualifiers. Names like Matija Frigan and Dor Turgeman have already been mentioned, but nothing is over the line yet.
If both Dessers and Igamane do depart this summer — with Dessers reportedly attracting bids around £5 million and Igamane potentially commanding a fee close to £20 million — Rangers could be looking at a windfall of £25 million. That sort of cash injection could fuel a major rebuild of the squad, but only if it’s spent wisely and quickly.

Letting both strikers go would only make sense if the club already has a replacement lined up and ready to go. Dor Turgeman, heavily linked in recent weeks, would need to be secured swiftly. Time is short, and Rangers cannot afford to be scrambling around for attacking solutions with the Champions League qualifiers looming.
As things stand, Danilo is the only recognised No.9 remaining in the squad. Training photos this week have shown the Brazilian being pushed hard, with more than a few images showing him looking absolutely burst. If he’s to lead the line solo, it raises big concerns about depth and durability.
A Deal That Must Be Done Right
No one wanted to see Igamane go this soon. His flair, his fearlessness, and his bond with the Ibrox crowd made him feel like a long-term hero in the making. But modern football rarely lets stories like that play out. If the money’s right, clubs have to act.
That said, the minimum Rangers should accept is £15 million — but realistically, a deal closer to £20 million is more fitting given his age, output, and potential. And if it does go through, there absolutely must be a strong sell-on clause included. This is a player who could easily go for double that fee in a few years if he continues on this trajectory.
This could be the clearest sign yet of a change in Rangers’ transfer strategy under the 49ers Enterprises-led board. Smart recruitment, fast development, and maximum return. It’s a bold new model — but one that relies heavily on getting the next move right.
