Robin Pröpper’s Rangers stint looks like it could be coming to an early close, with reports in the Netherlands claiming FC Twente are keen to bring their former captain back to Enschede just one year after he left.
According to Dutch sources, Twente are “desperate” to re-sign Pröpper and are seriously exploring how to strike a deal with Rangers. And with the way things have gone in Glasgow, the Scottish club could be easy to deal with.
Adding fuel to the fire, Pröpper has reportedly been photographed in a restaurant with senior FC Twente officials in recent days, further suggesting that discussions about a return are already underway.
A Move That Hasn’t Paid Off
Pröpper’s time at Ibrox hasn’t gone to plan. Despite making 43 appearances—most as a starter—he’s never looked fully comfortable in the Scottish game. Too often, he appeared like a rabbit in the headlights, struggling to impose himself in the rough and tumble of Premiership football.
He wasn’t physical enough to handle the big, aggressive forwards you regularly come up against in Scotland. Time and again, he was pushed around and lost his battles. Among fans, his name is now regularly mentioned in connection with the missteps of former Technical Director Nils Koppen, whose recruitment record continues to divide opinion.

A Style That Didn’t Fit
There’s a clear contrast between the Eredivisie and the Scottish Premiership. In the Netherlands, defenders often enjoy more time on the ball and less physical pressure. That environment suits technical players, but it’s not always the best preparation for the gritty demands of Scottish football.
The Eredivisie is admired for its attacking football, but from a defensive standpoint, it’s a different world. And in Pröpper’s case, those differences became obvious.
Twente Reunion on the Cards?
With Twente now showing serious interest, and Pröpper reportedly open to a return, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this one moved quickly. Rangers are undergoing structural change behind the scenes, and with Kevin Thelwell stepping in as Director of Football, this summer could bring a clear-out of players who haven’t made the grade.
At 31, Pröpper may see a return home as the right move at the right time. And for Rangers, it might be a chance to quietly draw a line under a signing that just didn’t work out.
