Rangers have agreed a deal with Girona to bring Bojan Miovski back to Scottish football in a move worth an initial £2.6 million, rising to more than £4 million with add-ons.
The 26-year-old striker, who made his name at Aberdeen, has been high on Rangers’ list of targets throughout the summer. With Hamza Igamane’s £10.5m switch to Lille completed and uncertainty continuing around Cyriel Dessers’ future, the club has now moved quickly to secure Miovski as a ready-made replacement.
Proven Record in Scotland
Miovski was a star at Pittodrie between 2022 and 2024, scoring 44 goals in 98 games for the Dons. His movement, finishing ability, and knack for turning up in big matches quickly made him a fan favourite in the North-East, and his record in Scottish football was always going to attract attention from Ibrox.
Spanish Spell Comes to an End
After joining La Liga side Girona last summer, Miovski found it difficult to nail down a regular starting place. He made 23 appearances across all competitions, scoring four times, but still played his part in helping the club avoid relegation by a single point.
Despite his struggles to establish himself in Spain, Rangers see him as a player perfectly suited to hit the ground running in Glasgow, given his experience and scoring record in the Premiership.
A Timely Arrival
Rangers’ move for Miovski comes during a crucial point in the transfer window. With Dessers entering the final year of his contract and already attracting interest from AEK Athens, the Ibrox hierarchy have been determined to strengthen the frontline ahead of a demanding campaign.
The North Macedonian international is expected to provide immediate competition and cover, while also easing the pressure following Igamane’s controversial departure – the Moroccan refused to come off the bench against St Mirren and didn’t travel to Belgium for the disastrous Champions League exit earlier this week.
Crucially, the deal is now moving fast – with Miovski’s medical rumoured to be taking place today before he puts pen to paper on his Rangers contract.
Eyes on the Old Firm
The timing of the deal couldn’t be sharper, with Rangers set to host Celtic at Ibrox this Sunday in the first Old Firm derby of the season. While it remains to be seen if Miovski will feature straight away, his arrival is a major boost for Russell Martin’s side as they look to bounce back from midweek disappointment and make a statement in the league.
This deal shows clear intent from Rangers: replacing departures with proven quality and ensuring the squad is ready for the challenges ahead. Fans will now be watching closely to see if Miovski can replicate his Aberdeen form in a blue shirt and fire Rangers’ season into life.
