Rangers have confirmed the signing of Finnish international winger Oliver Antman from Eredivisie side Go Ahead Eagles for an initial fee of around £3million, potentially rising to over £4million with add-ons.
The 23-year-old joins on a long-term deal, bringing pace, flair, and international pedigree to a side that has sorely lacked a natural option on the right flank. Antman is expected to meet his new teammates today and could even be thrown straight into the squad for tonight’s Champions League qualifier, having replaced the injured Thelo Aasgaard in the European squad registration.

A Right-Wing Upgrade That Was Badly Needed
Let’s be honest — Rangers have been crying out for a proper right winger. Kieran Dowell, who has filled in recently, may have the manager’s backing but has struggled to convince the fans. Dowell simply doesn’t offer the pace, directness, or technical consistency required to hurt teams at European level or break down stubborn domestic defences.

That’s why the arrival of Antman feels like a major step in the right direction. This isn’t a speculative project player — he’s a senior international, capped over 20 times for Finland, and someone with UEFA competition experience. Fans will be hoping this finally spells the end of the Dowell experiment out wide and marks the beginning of a more dynamic, attacking setup under Russell Martin.
We are thrilled to bring Oliver to Glasgow. He is a player we have followed closely and his versatility attacking qualities will add a new dimension to our squad. He is hungry to learn, and I look forward to seeing the impact he can have this season and in the future at Rangers.

A Familiar Face: Diomande Connection
Antman’s journey to Ibrox also reunites him with Mohamed Diomande, his former teammate at FC Nordsjælland, where the pair played together between 2019 and 2024. That chemistry and understanding could be a valuable asset in helping him settle into the side quickly. The Danish Superliga side is known for developing technically gifted, high-pressing players — traits both Diomande and Antman clearly share.

Last Season’s Numbers: A Creative Threat
During the 2024/25 Eredivisie campaign, Antman made 32 league appearances for Go Ahead Eagles, registering 8 goals and 15 assists — a remarkable return for a player often operating from wide areas.
His direct involvement in 23 goals across all competitions not only made him one of the most productive wingers in the Dutch top flight, but also caught the eye of clubs across Europe. His form played a big part in Go Ahead Eagles pushing into the top half of the table and qualifying for European competition.
These aren’t speculative “potential” numbers — they’re hard output from a player in a highly competitive league.
What Can Rangers Fans Expect?
Antman is a versatile forward who can play on either wing but is most dangerous on the right, cutting in onto his stronger left foot. He has a low centre of gravity, sharp movement, and the ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations — something Rangers have lacked badly on the flanks in recent years.
He also brings a calmness in the final third — his assist record is no fluke. Whether it’s slipping through balls into the box or clipping crosses with precision, Antman shows the kind of composure and decision-making you’d expect from a player beyond his years.
Add in his international experience and familiarity with pressing systems, and he seems tailor-made for what Russell Martin wants to build at Ibrox.
Straight Into the Fire?
With Thelo Aasgaard ruled out for the next two Champions League qualifying rounds, Rangers have had to make a quick change to the European squad. Antman is now registered, and if his paperwork is complete, we could see him make his debut as early as tonight.
Given the circumstances, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him thrown straight in. There’s no time to waste. Rangers need creativity, pace and cutting edge in the final third — and Antman might just be the answer.
Final Thoughts
Russell Martin called him “a player we’ve followed closely” and said he’ll bring “a new dimension” to the squad. Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell praised his maturity, versatility, and technical quality.
Oliver is an exciting talent who has demonstrated great technical ability and maturity at a young age. He has gained valuable experience, playing both domestically and internationally, and I am excited to see him play in this squad. We are confident he can make a significant contribution here and play a key role in the squad moving forward.

But for fans, this deal represents something else — intent. A clear signal that the club is serious about addressing glaring issues in the side, especially in attack.
If Antman hits the ground running — and links up well with Diomande and Danilo — he could become one of the key attacking figures in this new-look Rangers side.
Welcome to Ibrox, Oliver. Let’s get to work.
