Rangers appear to be closing in on the signing of Djeidi Gassama, with strong reports that the winger is currently meeting club officials at St George’s Park ahead of a move to Ibrox.
The 20-year-old former PSG prospect, currently at Sheffield Wednesday, is the latest name linked with the club’s summer rebuild under new head coach Russell Martin. And this could be one of the bargains of the window.
A Player Shaped by Giants
Gassama spent three years with Paris Saint-Germain, rubbing shoulders with some of the game’s most iconic names. He made his first-team debut for PSG in a 4-0 win over Montpellier, replacing Angel Di Maria late on — and sharing the pitch with Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, and Neymar.
When I was at PSG, I always thought to myself I had to work twice as hard because my colleagues were Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar. I told myself I had to make a good impression. You feed off the pressure at that level. Put simply, when you play and train with these guys, you simply must improve as a player — and I believe I have.

That elite environment shaped his work ethic, and by all accounts, Gassama has developed into a direct, pacey winger with the confidence to take players on and test goalkeepers from distance — something that could add a new dimension to Rangers’ attack.
From Eupen to Hillsborough
After leaving PSG, Gassama joined Belgian side Eupen on loan before moving to Sheffield Wednesday, where he quickly became a fan favourite. Despite only being at the club for a short time, Owls supporters are gutted to see him linked with a move away — always a promising sign for any club looking to snap up talent.

Financial Issues Present Opportunity
It’s understood that Sheffield Wednesday’s financial issues could be a key factor in Rangers moving swiftly to secure Gassama’s services. Reports suggest the fee could be around £2.5 million, significantly below the £8 million valuation many believe reflects his true potential.
If Rangers can get this deal over the line, it could be a genuine transfer masterstroke, bringing in a high-ceiling player with Champions League-level experience and a hunger to prove himself.
What Could He Offer at Ibrox?
Russell Martin is reshaping this Rangers side to be faster, more aggressive, and more dynamic — and Gassama ticks a lot of those boxes. Comfortable on either wing but typically used on the left, he’s explosive in transition, carries the ball well, and isn’t afraid to cut inside and shoot.
With the Ibrox faithful demanding high tempo, high press football, this is the kind of signing that fits the profile — young, hungry, and with something to prove.
